January 16th-22nd, 2002. 8pm (Euro13/Euro9.50)
GRAFT
by Stephen Berkoff, acted and directed by George Dillon.
Last chance to see this award winning one man performance by the man who Stephen Berkoff credits with having 'gone further than I ever did', no faint praise from the high priest of transgression. Dillon plays Harry, an actor who spends far less time on stage and far more time waiting for his agent to call than he would like - when the call does arrive it's not offering him Hamlet, or another part as 'servant of the classics', but the hind legs of a donkey in a ten week run of the Sunderland Christmas panto. There's no consolation for Harry in the arms of a woman either: romance is unattainable or, as the actor grows older, remembered incompletely. A bleak look at the actor's profession, and the world of work in general, in which youth means chances. It's a mighty performance by Dillon, whose physical energy charges the small space, while giving Berkoff's barrage of a script the required decibels as it veers madly from sublime to ridiculous. More top quality English language theatre from the F.I.O., and we look forward to a full programme in 2002.

New Yorker Gayle Tufts and her congenial Begleiter Rainer Bielfeldt have teamed up for their eigth show of comedy, song and irreverent 'Dinglish' banter at the Bar Jeder Vernunft. A story of the wonder and perils of everyday life - a day in the life of an entertainer. Reporting straight from their living room, Tufts and Bielfeldt reveal the lipstickless truth and dirty reality behind the facade of comedy and self-irony.
