Kolbo
Auguststrasse 77/78, 10117 Berlin - Mitte | Tel: 281 31 35, Fax: no fax | U6 Oranienburger Tor; S1, S2 Oranienburger Str |
map:
This small shop, affiliated with the Adass Yisroel orthodox congregation, stocks a good selection of kosher foodstuffs, wine, and ritual objects. Manischewitz and Rokeach are in ample supply of course, but Kolbo also stocks some unexpected items, such as cosmetics and personal hygiene products from Israel and frozen kosher poultry from France. They have an excellent stock of kosher wines from several well-regarded Israeli wineries. They bake their own bagels, challah, and cakes and make their own gefilte fish, a surprise for those raised on Manischewitz. Before Passover they sell fresh horseradish, and during the summer, they stock Galil Israeli ice cream.
Kolbo also offers some inedibles: there's a selection of siddurim and popular books on Judaism (all in German) and a number of klezmer and cantorial CDs. Tucked in a corner of the small store is a display case of ritual objects and jewelry.

Kosher Deli
Goethestrasse 61, 10625 Berlin - Charlottenburg | Tel: 31 50 92 43, Fax: no fax | U2, U7 Bismarckstr, U7 Wilmersdorfer Str | Times: Mon-Thu 9-17:30, Fri 9-13.
map:
Berlin's only kosher butcher. The fresh beef, lamb, and poultry stem from organically raised, free-roaming local livestock. All meat is koshered on the premises, supervised by an Israeli shochet resident in Berlin and certified by Rabbi Ehrenberg of the Jewish Community organization. The store also features a delicatessen counter and kosher staples and snacks.

Pläzl
Passauer Str. 4, 10789 Berlin - Schöneberg | Tel: 217 75 06, Fax: no fax | U1, U2, U15 Wittenbergplatz. |
map:
In contrast to many other Jewish spots in the city, Pläzl is not retiring: a large sign in German and Yiddish hangs over a display window full of Israeli wine and food. It is a refreshing assurance. Co-owner Uri Gabriel hopes that the store will develop into a meeting place and social center for the Jewish community and visitors.
There is a large array of kosher foodstuffs with a distinctly Israeli bent, not only matzoh but also potato chips and candy bars, instant noodles, falafel mix, and other kosher convenience foods. Traditional eastern European foods, such as gefilte fish, herring, lox, and kosher sausage can be found here as well. Pläzl devotes an entire back room to kosher wines (Carmel and Yarden among others) and spirits, the best selection in the city.

Schalom
Wielandstrasse 43, 10625 Berlin - Charlottenburg | Tel: 312 11 31, Fax: no fax | S-Bahn Savignyplatz |
map:
Schalom is the oldest, and was for a long, long time the only kosher food store in Berlin. Since 1965 it has been offering Israeli and American products from margarine to macaroons. Specialties include Sabra liqueur, Carmel and Golan wines, and frozen poultry.
A little worn at the edges, it has a kind of Old World charm, intimate and haphazard. The store is actually located in the building's inner courtyard, and you´ll find the entrance through the driveway. If you're being very careful on German soil, it allows for discreet shopping.
