Macintosh

Macs are more expensive, sexier, and as PC users like to say: designed for the lowest common denominator of computer user, that is to say, they are idiot proof.
Be that as it may, the recent G3/G4 Macs are without a doubt extremely powerful computers and certainly a lot easier to set-up, and more flexible for smaller office networks than are PCs.
Symptomatic though of its smaller following is the smaller community of quality dealers. Here are a few of our own experiences.

For international Macintosh devotees, this is the right stop. The company was one of the early Macintosh pioneers in Germany. While it is not the largest, it is one of the most reliable and customer friendly and more importantly, most international dealers in Berlin and nation-wide. Go to their showroom for more hands-on assistance at Uhlandstrasse, or their technical assistance and sales outlet in Ritterstrasse. Though their website is not yet in English, at Ritterstrasse they can meet most any user needs in English, both representatives and technical consultants speak good to excellent English. Two outlets in Berlin and one in Hamburg.

A self-proclaimed mixed-fruit computer dealer (90% Macintosh) run by two or three young guys in a small space in a back room with boxes of computers (mostly all Macintosh) stacked from floor to ceiling in their customer showroom/storage room.
These guys know what they are talking about, and speak decent English, but be prepared for dry, laconic humor and a long wait. With extremely competitive prices, and high-demand, their two shop keepers are simply not enough to manage repairs and sales for a constant stream of customers, and phone calls. You can end up waiting up to 15 minutes, but they reward your patience with their patience. They never seem to get ruffled or stressed, even when 5 customes are standing around waiting to be served and the phone is ringing off the hook. And they will help you with a variety of other services, from burning CDs to helpful tips about where to get software.
